DESIGNING NARRATIVE WORLDS

John DeCuir Jr. is a production designer and educator whose career spans feature films, television, and large‑scale experiential environments.

His work includes contributions to projects such as Ghostbusters, Top Gun, and major developments at Walt Disney Imagineering, including EPCOT’s CommuniCore, the Energy Pavilion, and the Spaceship Earth post‑show experience. Beyond themed entertainment, DeCuir has led exhibition design for institutions such as the Fort Worth Museum of Science & Industry, creating immersive educational environments that merge storytelling with public engagement.

Across several decades, his work has been realized internationally in film, themed attractions, museum exhibitions, and cultural installations throughout the United States and Europe.

Today, his focus centers on a fundamental question:

How do we design worlds that become gateways — places where audiences move from passive observation into active immersion, carrying the story’s mission and message forward into their own lives?

ADVISORY APPROACH

John works with a limited number of projects each year, providing high-level advisory input at the earliest stages of development—when world structure, narrative clarity, and audience engagement are most effectively shaped.
His work focuses on:

Defining the Narrative World
Strengthening coherence and legibility
Aligning story and environment
Identifying and resolving structural contradictions
